About Cabrera

The municipality is located on the northeast coast of the country, three and a half hours from Santo Domingo (by bus), capital city of the Dominican Republic, east of the Scottish Bay and Samaná and west of Espaillat, just 38 kilometers from the municipality of Nagua, head of the province of María Trinidad Sánchez. It is bordered to the west by the municipality of Río San Juan, to the south by Nagua to the north and to the east by the Atlantic Ocean. Cabrera’s coastline is bordered by Scottish Bay, which extends for 70 kilometers to Cabo Cabrón, on the Samaná Peninsula.

Best beach in the area:

Playa Grande located approximately 120 kilometers northeast of the city of Puerto Plata, between Río San Juan and Cabrera, this wide beach of golden sand measures two kilometers and is popular for its good waves for surfers and strong winter currents, requiring extra care when getting into the water so as not to stray too far from the shore. On the beach, you will find a variety of local cabanas serving fresh fish and seafood while music plays. Playa Grande’s perfect palm trees and golden sand have made it a favorite among photographers.
